Moulin Papotte, a 15th century mill restored by Heju Studio
In the heart of an old restored 15th century mill on a 2.5 hectare estate in the Bourgogne region of France, lies the Moulin Papotte. The property consists of several different buildings, each thoughtfully renovated by Heju Studio.
“Soul and personality”
Heju’s brief was to create interiors with soul and personality, a place where visitors can relax and enjoy the countryside.
With its soft powder pink use, the reception area provides a warm welcoming area for visitors. The painted brick walls, terracotta-tiled counter and wooden beams contrasts nicely with the brass pendant and wall lights.
The tiled tables – paired with a built-in banquette which frames the room – provide a graphic touch.
“Simple and light-filled”
The riverside Maison 2 is designed in the style of a fisherman’s cottage and features a selection of handcrafted and vintage pieces.
With their simple shapes and light colors, the ceiling lights provide a beautiful finishing touch to the room. The warm toned wood and moss green sofa give a soft, wintery feel to the living space, which is separated from the sleeping area by a curved screen.
The larger Maison 6 features rough painted brick walls and an exposed concrete beam, which contrast with the smoothly plastered wall with elegant cut out shapes and the polished alabaster wall lights.
With its clean simple lines, low cabinets, coffered ceiling and horizontal pendant light, the kitchen has a beautiful linear fee, and the ceiling appears to be higher than it actually is.
The darkly painted bedrooms provide a touch of contrast, and give a cosy, welcoming feel, which is prolonged in the bathroom.
