The Beauséjour Project by Atelier Opale

Nestled in the prestigious 16th arrondissement of Paris, the Beauséjour project redefines the aesthetic of traditional medical spaces. This project by Atelier Opale – the interior design studio founded by Alexandra Bouthier and Alice Lefebvre in 2019 – embodies their signature approach: meticulous attention to detail, a masterful interplay of materials, and an ever-present quest for the perfect light. The outcome is a renovation that exudes timeless elegance.

Atelier Opale embarked on the project with a clear vision: “We sought to depart entirely from the cold, sterile atmosphere of most medical settings, often dominated by blue tones,” they explain. Their ambition? To transform the clinic into a space that feels as welcoming and luxurious as an upscale apartment, embracing warm hues and a “home-like” layout. The result is a space bathed in soft beige tones where every detail has been curated to inspire comfort and tranquility, far removed from the typical sterile atmosphere of a clinic.

A Refined Palette

One of the project’s highlights lies in its refined selection of materials. Atelier Opale selected matte-finished antique parquet, polished lacquer surfaces, punctuated by touches of chrome, to create a sophisticated balance between tradition and modernity. “We are drawn to soft, warm tones and aimed to create a space that is both calming and timeless, appealing to a broad audience,” explained the designers.

As the Beauséjour clinic is located on the ground floor, the designers needed to compensate for its limited natural light. “Lighting was a crucial element, as this is a medical practice,” the architects note. Each light source was carefully chosen to illuminate the space with precision. The François Bazin wall lights have particularly warm tones, creating a cosy, welcoming atmosphere.

A Curated Selection

“We like sourcing from Chiara Colombini for the range of distinctive options,” highlight Bouthier and Lefebvre. Their selection includes bold pieces, full of character, chosen for their durability and ability to withstand heavy use.

Among the standout pieces is the Frame wall light by Violaine d’Harcourt, which appears on the wall of the reception area almost like a work of art, and Axel Chay’s sculptural chrome Modulation floor light, which creates a striking contrast with the natural materials and soft beige tones of the waiting room. François Bazin’s Kérylos wall lights, with their airy lines and delicate texture, lend a poetic touch.
