MERCÚRIO TABLE by Alan Louis
Mercúrio table, Alan Louis.
Like living sculptures, Alan Louis hand-forms his ceramic benches from chamotte (sand-grained) stoneware. The clay is fired between two and three times at temperatures ranging from 800 to 1400 degrees. During this process, the object achieves a solidity close to that of stone.
It is through assembly, modelling, sculpting and the various firings that the object reveals itself. Clay is an almost "living" material, animated by its movements between drying and firing. These parameters make the curves irregular and imperfect, and the dimensions may vary slightly. The object is unique.
The Mercúrio table is available in four stoneware finishes: ecru, beige, ochre and black.
Each piece is signed and numbered.
