Victoire de Lencquesaing founded Main Edition in Lisbon in 2017 after discovering ceramics in Paris.
She began her career as a photography producer in the fashion industry. "I had a lot of work, a lot of stress, and my life was moving at a crazy pace, leaving no room for my creativity. My sister, who knows me very well, enrolled me in a ceramics workshop, saying, 'You need to take the time to do things; you need to relearn patience.' I followed the course and immediately loved it."
Victoire then left her job to join the studio of Fance Franck and Francine Delpierre in Saint-Germain-des-Prés, which was opening its own gallery and showcased the work of other artists. "I met wonderful people, fell in love, and these were my first steps as a ceramicist."
Portugal played a significant role in Victoire de Lencquesaing's transformation. "When you’re about to change your life so radically, you need to do it in a completely new place, and Lisbon was the one we chose." There, she opened the doors to her house-studio, which, hidden behind a typical façade in the Lapa neighborhood, transports visitors to a space that could have been imagined by the Mexican architect Luis Barragán.
Her work lies at the intersection of design and fine arts. She collaborates with various professionals, including architects, publishers, perfumers, and jewelers, with each collaboration exuding a sensitive and poetic universe where the hand, in its form or associated gestures, holds a central place. "The hand is the idea that infuses all my creations. It is about returning, redoing, and renewing, starting with our most elemental, natural, and intuitive tool."
