French design studio Mattina Moderna creates lights in very limited editions.
Founded in 2020 by a mother-daughter duo, the studio, which is based in the south of France, inscribe its creative process in a sustainable and digital approach. Each piece is first created in a 3d model and then handcrafted.
« When we first started Mattina Moderna, my mother and I were far from imagining that we would one day be creating lights. It really began as a hobby, sourcing vintage lamps and objects in our home region - the French riviera - reconnecting with it and with each other after the successive lockdowns of 2020. Then, with the amazing response from our followers and an increasing demand for unique pieces, we started creating custom lampshades from deadstock fabrics with a local artisan to fit our vintage finds. And one thing leading to another, we ended up launching our very own line of limited edition table lamps, handcrafted in Portugal, in Spring 2022. Every step felt very natural, and when we thought about how to create lamps from scratch, ceramics seemed the obvious choice... Ceramics have that timeless, humble feel, rooted in tradition. For us, that's what slow-design is about, creating the right number of pieces, with emotion and extreme care and sharing it in a very personal way. » Clémentine Poncin, designer and co-founder of Mattina Moderna.
