Mauricio Obarrio and Juan Peralta, founders of lighting and furniture design studio Contain, are fascinated by craftsmanship and by the interaction between artisan and designer. Based in Mallorca, Obarrio and Peralta love to work with local craftspeople. Their blown glass comes from Lafiore or Gordiola, local glass factories with hundreds of years of history and experience; their alabaster from a Spanish quarry.
Contain's collections are made using natural materials - brass, glass, wood - sourced locally whenever possible, which are combined with new design and technology, in particular 3D printing technology using PLA (polylactic acid or polylactide), a thermoplastic aliphatic polyester derived from renewable resources.
Each collection is hand made and made to order. Small irregularities in shape or surface may occur, which are inherent to the hand made process and should not be seen as flaws.
Making each piece to order ensures a high degree of flexibility. The whole collection can be available in custom colours, and sizes.
