Large Amas Shelf by Oros.
The large Amas shelf offers a contemporary take on wooden furniture and wickerwork. It was conceived by designer Sacha Parent: "The aesthetic and narrative qualities of straw interest me. Its shine, its vibrations, its flexibility, but also all the regional furniture that has embraced it. The straw-seated chair is a very strong piece that I kept in mind throughout the project. By positioning itself in relation to this archetype of wickerwork, the collection designed for Oros allows straw to reintegrate our interiors."
Here, raw rye straw is used vertically to create structural supports. The raw bundles of rye create constructive systems that require neither glue nor additional mechanical parts. Solid wood planks - natural ash or stained oak (thanks to a natural reaction of tannins, offering a bluish aspect) - define the shelving spaces.
The choice of materials and production methods is at the heart of this project. In Occitania, the wood grows near where it is sawn and at the woodworking workshop, a sheltered workshop, which takes care of shaping the material. Rye straw is harvested in Saône-et-Loire. Extremely resistant, it is still hand-cut to preserve its full length. The solid wood planks and rye straw then come together in Marseille at the Oros studio for the assembly stage.
The large Amas shelf can be placed against a wall or in the middle of a space as a partition. Stable, it will accommodate your books or decorative objects.
It was in 2015 that Laure Amoros founded Oros, with the mission of perpetuating her father's passion for wood. Oros strives to preserve traditional techniques, explore their evolution, and promote contemporary creation while preserving wood species. Each item is made in small series, sometimes on demand, to respond more accurately to demand and encourage responsible consumption.
